Research Assistant / Research Associate, Technology and National Security Program

The Gist:

Support cutting-edge research on AI sovereignty and emerging technology policy at a leading national security think tank. You’ll manage projects, conduct field research, and produce policy analysis at the intersection of technology and U.S. strategic competition.

What You’d Be Doing:

• Conduct in-depth research and analysis on AI policy, emerging technologies, and technology statecraft; organize roundtables and field interviews with policy stakeholders.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, events, and international field research logistics while coordinating with internal and external partners.
• Author and co-author CNAS papers, reports, op-eds, and policy recommendations; edit publications and develop content strategies.
• Support event design and execution-from speaker coordination and logistics to promotion and audience engagement.

What They’re Looking For:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a relevant area preferred.
• Experience: Demonstrated interest in national security and emerging technologies; general familiarity with U.S. technology policy processes and agencies.
• Standout Qualifications: 2+ years of full-time relevant work experience preferred for Research Associate applicants; experience researching and writing on AI, cloud computing, digital infrastructure, or technology statecraft; ability to translate technical concepts for policymakers.
