WASH Officer – Ituri

The Gist:

Lead water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions in health facilities and communities to prevent disease transmission, particularly Ebola and other epidemics. This role is for someone who can work at both facility and community levels in a high-risk setting.

What You’d Be Doing:

• Assess and monitor WASH conditions in health facilities and communities; identify gaps in water supply, sanitation, waste management, and hygiene infrastructure
• Support installation and maintenance of functional handwashing stations and medical waste management systems at health facilities
• Implement community-level WASH activities and promote safe water handling, sanitation, and hygiene practices
• Conduct regular water quality monitoring and supervise minor repairs and infrastructure rehabilitation

What They’re Looking For:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (minimum 3 years post-secondary) in environmental health, public health, water engineering, civil engineering, or equivalent field.
• Experience: At least 3 years of professional WASH/environmental health experience, including work in health facility WASH interventions, assessments, field supervision, and community and authority engagement.
• Standout Qualifications: Prior experience in epidemic response (Ebola, cholera, mpox, COVID-19), humanitarian/emergency contexts, or biomedical waste management is preferred.
