Diplomatic Security: Foreign Service Security Engineering Officer (FS-2550)

The Gist:

Protect U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide by designing, installing, and managing technical security systems against terrorism and espionage. This is a career Foreign Service officer track requiring engineering expertise and global mobility.

What You’d Be Doing:

• Design, install, and maintain security networks and physical/technical systems at 275+ overseas posts
• Conduct technical surveillance countermeasures (TSCM) inspections and cyber security assessments
• Manage regional security engineering teams and oversee project planning, budgets, and compliance
• Serve as subject matter expert on security policy, equipment evaluation, and crisis response

What They’re Looking For:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical field required; master’s or PhD in these fields can reduce experience requirements.
• Experience: Entry level (FP-06) requires no prior experience; mid-level (FP-05) requires 1-4 years of specialized experience in networks, RF systems, or cybersecurity; senior (FP-04) requires 4+ years or advanced degree plus one year experience.
• Standout Qualifications: Experience with electromagnetic spectrum, RF engineering, TSCM equipment operation, electrical/mechanical schematics, and IT security assessments; project management and budget oversight experience valued.
