The Gist:

A non-paid reserve program for eligible family members of Foreign Service officers, designed to fast-track hiring into local positions at overseas posts. Right for spouses and dependents seeking work abroad who meet State Department eligibility criteria.

What You’d Be Doing:

  • Remain in unpaid reserve status until selected for a specific local position at your sponsor’s post
  • Compete for available overseas jobs when they open at your post
  • Maintain security clearance and respond to recertification and reinvestigation requests
  • Notify HR of any life changes (divorce, etc.) that could affect eligibility

What They’re Looking For:

  • Standout Qualifications: Previous security clearance or ability to quickly obtain Low Risk/Non-Sensitive (LRNS) determination speeds entry into the program.

You’re a Foreign Service family member willing to wait unpaid for a local job opening at your post and can handle uncertainty-acceptance into FSFRC doesn’t guarantee employment, only a faster hiring process when positions become available.
