Semester of Service Volunteer – Congressional Engagement Volunteer

The Gist:

Help the State Department build a Congressional engagement database for East Asia and the Pacific. This is a volunteer project for students seeking hands-on experience in foreign policy and legislative affairs.

What You’d Be Doing:

• Research and prepare Congressional travel backgrounders and Member/staff interest briefs
• Track key legislation relevant to the East Asia-Pacific region
• Populate and maintain a living database on Congress using State systems and Quorum platform
• Promote the dashboard to diplomatic posts across the region

What They’re Looking For:

• Education: Must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited school/college/university for Spring 2027, with minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Standout Qualifications: Familiarity with Congressional operations, experience with databases and new technology platforms, and knowledge of Microsoft Suite and SharePoint are preferred.

Good Fit If:

You’re a quick learner with a can-do attitude who wants to understand how Congress engages with U.S. foreign policy in Asia-Pacific. You’re comfortable learning new databases and tech tools on the job.
