The Gist:

Support the State Department’s Office of Professional and Cultural Exchanges by redesigning how they handle reporting and tracking across three offices. This is a semester-long volunteer project for students seeking hands-on experience in government modernization.

What You’d Be Doing:

  • Map current reporting workflows and interview State Department officials across three constituent offices
  • Research and analyze options for consolidating recurring reports into a single integrated weekly exercise
  • Identify best practices for tracking grants and events; explore dashboard and AI-powered automation tools
  • Deliver recommendations and a prototype solution to improve efficiency and cross-office coordination

What They’re Looking For:

  • Education: Must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited institution for Spring 2027 with a minimum 2.0 GPA and good academic standing.
  • Standout Qualifications: Experience with workflow mapping, digital dashboards, data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Excel), or project management platforms; familiarity with public sector innovation or international exchange programs.
