Semester of Service Volunteer – Foreign Media Impact and Strategic Storytelling

The Gist:

Support the State Department’s Foreign Press Center by researching how international journalists use U.S. government resources and developing content to track program impact. This is a semester-long volunteer role for students looking to gain hands-on experience in public diplomacy and strategic communications.

What You’d Be Doing:

  • Research and catalog global news stories generated by Foreign Press Center engagements
  • Create data visualizations and impact dashboards translating media metrics for U.S. government leadership
  • Draft social media content highlighting program impact and journalist testimonials
  • Use media monitoring software and Boolean search logic to analyze international media sentiment on U.S. policy

What They’re Looking For:

  • Education: Must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited institution (trade school, college, university, etc.) for Spring 2027 semester with a minimum 2.0 GPA and good academic standing.
  • Experience: Strong research and writing skills; basic familiarity with data visualization tools (Canva, Excel, Adobe) and social media management.
  • Standout Qualifications: Foreign language proficiency and academic interest in foreign relations, journalism, or public diplomacy are preferred.
