The Gist:
Research newly elected members of Congress for the State Department’s Legislative Affairs Bureau. This is a semester-long volunteer project for students seeking hands-on federal experience.
What You’d Be Doing:
- Research biographical information, foreign policy experience, and legislative interests for new House and Senate members
- Identify congressional committee assignments and key staff (Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, foreign policy advisor)
- Draft clear, concise summaries and update a virtual reference biography database
- Verify information from online sources, using manual research when AI access is limited
What They’re Looking For:
- Education: Must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited institution (trade school, technical institute, junior college, college, or university) for Spring 2027 with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
- Experience: Basic understanding of the U.S. Congress and congressional committees; proficiency in online research, drafting clearly, and Microsoft Word.
- Standout Qualifications: Experience distinguishing reliable sources and evaluating research quality is a plus.
